Proclene specialises in cleaning fine rugs that have been hand-knotted by highly skilled tribespeople, who have used only natural dyes and the finest of fibres. They tend to be intricate in detail, and some cases, very fragile.
We will listen to your requirements and any issues or concerns you may have. We will work with you to ensure that we meet your needs and exceed your expectations. We will ensure your complete and total satisfaction with the quality of our cleaning and the customer care that you receive.
Rug Spa Cleaning Process.
Rug Inspection.
A full and thorough inspection of your rug to identify it's construction, it's origins, and dye stability. This will provide us with the information we need to ensure that we use the correct rug cleaning procedure.
Rug Dusting.
Depending of which process we can use after our rug inspection, we will remove the dry dust and soil from your rug. This will most likely be by vacuuming to the face and the back, but this will be determined at the inspection stage.
Spots, Stains and Odours
The next stage is for us to specifically treat contaminated areas to remove spots and stains and neutralise any odours.
Dye Stabilising.
Dye stabilising may be needed, this gives us a window of opportunity to safely clean any such rug without the risk of dye bleed. This requirement will depend on the cleaning process that we can use following our rug inspection.
Some rugs will bleed heavily due to excessive dyes that were not removed after the yarn was initially dyed, this will become apparent in our initial inspection.
Rugs that bleed tend to originate from areas that have limited access to water and as a result the excessive dyes are not thoroughly rinsed out of the wool yarn.
Rug Washing.
The rug washing process again relies upon our initial inspection. Most rugs can be submersed in a rug wash bath, aka rug spa. Using gentle agitation and wool safe cleaning solutions we will loosen all water soluble soils, and remaining spots and stains.
Rug Fringe Cleaning
During the rug washing process we will also clean the fringe to help restore it to it's original colour - usually white.
Rug Rinsing.
After the rug washing stage, we will then thoroughly rinse the rug, flushing out all the water soluble soils, other contaminants such as urine, and cleaning solutions.
Water Extraction.
First of all we will gently squeeze as much the water from the rug as possible, we will then extract as much of the remaining water as possible prior to rolling it and lifting it in to our rug centrifuge which spin even more moisture out.
Rug Sanitising and Conditioning.
We will now apply an antimicrobial to your rug whilst it is still damp because the moisture will pull it to the fibres, we will then apply our wool fibre conditioner to restore the pH levels. This ensures that your rug remains stable in colours and feels soft. It also prevents the wool fibres and the cotton foundation from turning brown.
Rug Pile and Fringe Reset.
We will then reset the pile of the rug, untangle and comb fringes, prior to drying, this is important as it helps the rug to dry and the pile doesn't set in the wrong direction.
Rug Drying.
This will take place in our specially heated rug drying room which has special blowers to move the air, which is again is important to help your rug dry quickly and evenly. Our rug drying room also has dehumidifiers to help pull the remaining moisture from the room and your rug. Fast drying is the key to ensuring that your rug does not leech any dye colours in to adjoining colours and fringes do not brown.
Rug Stain Protection.
if you have opted for your rug to be treated with a stain protection, this will be applied throughout the rug drying process. Your rug will receive a minimum of 2 coats of protection.
Final Inspection
Now that your rug has completely dried, we will perform a final inspection of your freshly cleaned rug. We will double check that we have removed all soils, spots, stains and odours from your rug, we will ensure that no dye bleeds, dye leeching or any browning has occurred. We will also reset the pile and comb the fringes again.
Returning your Rug.
We will carry-out a damp test to ensure that it is 100% dry prior to rolling it up and packing it ready for your collection or delivery back to you.

When an item is cleaned thoroughly odours improve due to the fact the offending smell has been rinsed away, but this is only a small temporary improvement. When we clean, we use an anti-bacterial and anti-microbial treatment to destroy the offending bacteria that is causing the odour which continues to work long after cleaning, which is much better than steam alone.
